After the noble Kappa Kingdom falls to the Otter Empire, the Kappa prince Keppi loses much of his power and becomes helpless against the unseen Kapa-zombies. With no other choice, Keppi must rely on three young boys: Kazuki Yasaka, who must carry a box with him wherever he goes; Enta Jinnai, Kazuki’s childhood friend; and Tooi Kuji, a delinquent and a school truant.

By having the mythical organ called a shirikodama removed from them, the boys are able to become Kappa themselves and fight the Kapa-zombies. However, to defeat them, the boys must connect with each other via their minds, bodies, and—most importantly—secrets. As the Kappa Kingdom relies on these boys, they must reveal themselves as they have never done before, all the while learning that connections are fragile and truly precious things.

Thoughts

Sarazanmai was the most underrated anime of Spring 2019. What makes Sarazanmai good is how expressive the visual imagery is and how well the story slowly unfolds.

The director is  Kunihiko Ikuhara, who also directed Mawaru Penguindrum (2011). Ikuhara tackles the truthfulness of bonds in a modern hyperconnected society and consumerism with Sarazanmai. He frames his exploration of society through a mythological lens with interesting production values.

Sarazanmai is a great watch if your looking for something different with an ambitious director.

Fruits Basket gets a reboot in 2019 and this time it follows the manga more closely.

How does Fruits Basket (2019) compare to Fruits Basket (2001) ?

One of the appealing parts of Fruits Basket (2001) was the comedy. The comedic aspect helped balance out the dramatic scenes. However, in Fruits Basket (2019), the comedy falls flat and alot of the comedic scenes from Fruits Basket (2001) are removed.

Furthermore, Fruits Basket (2001) had a serious, dark tone in many of the scenes while Fruits Basket (2019) tones this down.

Where Fruits Basket (2019) shines is the characters. The backstory of many of the characters in Fruits Basket (2019) are more fleshed out. Furthermore, the tone is more upbeat and uplifting.

Overall, Fruits Basket (2019) is a good adaptation. The elements that made it great in the 2001 version are still present. Even if you haven’t seen the 2001 version, Fruits Basket (2019) is a very enjoyable shoujo anime.

Bungou Stray Dogs 3rd Season is the best season of Bungou Stray Dogs so far.

The season starts off with a flashback of how Dazai and Nakahara met. There’s a cinematic feel to this arc with great shots from director Takuya Igarashi.

The second arc is also great and filled with action and tension. There is a epic battle between Port Mafia, Armed Detective Agency and a new foe.

Bungou Stray Dogs 3rd Season builds on its solid foundation of characters and continue to weave its finest action.

Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 was the best anime of Spring 2019.

After the first part of season 3 of Attack on Titan dealt with the political side, the second part has more action and finally answers alot of questions.
What makes part 2 stand out from other seasons of Attack Titan is there is no filler or slow pacing. The beginning episodes starts out with a bang while questions get answered at the end. Viewers are never bored and it’s a roller-coaster of emotion.
It wouldn’t be Attack on Titan without a epic scene and one of the highlights is the battle between Levi and the Beast Titan.
The secrets of the basement finally get revealed and boy does it deliver. It lays the foundation for the final season.
Attack on Titan Final Season is set to drop during October 2020 in the fall season.
